NAAC ACCREDITS MOHANLAL SUKHADIA UNIVERSITY WITH B++ GRADE
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission, has accredited the Mohanlal Sukhadia University,Udaipur for a period of five years with B++ Grade (Institutional score between 80-85%). The NACC was established by the UGC in 1994 with the prime agenda to assess and accredit institution of higher learning with an objective of helping them to work continously to improve the quality of education. A peer team of the council visited the Mohanlal Sukhadia University for three days in November 2002 under the stewardship of Prof. Ramchandra Naidu, Former Vice-chancellor, Sri Krishnadevaraya University. During its three days stay the team visited different departments of all the consituent colleges, Centres, Laboratories,Hostels,Sports Complex, Libraries and interacted with members of the BOM, principals of affiliated colleges,students,parents and alumini.
Mohanlal Sukhadia University, incidently, is the first State University in Rajasthan which has got itself assessed and accredited by the NAAC. Before it only the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani has undergone the process and achieved 5 stars under the old grading system in which 5 star grading was equivalent to 75% and above. Mohanlal Sukhadia University, thus, has achieved the five star grading with 80-86% institutional score. On the basis of its acreditation, the University has now joined the elite club of Universities like Hyderabad, Banglore, Mysore, Mumbai, Pune, Punjab which also attained 5 star grade.
The NAAC peer team has commented the Sukhadia university for organisation of trbal banking, training programmes for Panchayat Raj functionaries, programmes for improvement of entrepreneural skills in Women,emphasis on Good Governance and Human Rights programmes and for exposing student community to Internet and Web site facilities. The team expressed satisfaction that the University was adequately catering to the educational needs of the tribal belt of South Rajatshan. It was appreciative of the self financing courses run by different departments. The team lauded the research achievements of Botany, Zoology,Geology, Physics,Chemistry, Political Science, Geography and Economics. Moreover, it was also pointed out that the University needs to develop in built mechanism of academic audit to ensure quality in education. The team stressed on a system of feedback by students, academic peers and employers. The team lamented the fact that many departments are under-staffed and stressed the dire need to strengthen these departments by filling the existing vacancies.
Prof. A.K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Mohanlal Sukhadia University expressed satisfaction with the accreditation and congratulated the entire University community over its achievement. He expressed the hope that the University will achieve even a higher status when it is again assessed by the NAAC in the year 2007. It needs to be mentioned that Prof. A.K. Singh has been the Vice-Chancellor of the University for more than 5 years since December ,1997 which also is the period for which the NAAC peer team assessed the University.
