About the programme:

Master of  Science  (M.Sc.) in Information Technology is a  two years , four semester professional  course designed  to provide training to develop, implement and operate modern information systems. Graduates of  M.Sc.(IT) will have a broad technical understanding of current and emerging  technologies in the IT field, familiarity with  systems engineering concepts &  IT management  and   solid foundation in the technological  basis of  the Internet required to take up a career in IT industry or  to  persue scientific  research in wide topics from converging  areas of Computer Science and  Telecommunications  

Total course content of M.Sc(IT) offered by the university is  specially designed to take students in a fast track to cover almost all major topics of MCA in two years and to train students in new and emerging technologies. Candidates after M.Sc(IT) course are expected  to be entering into  R&D and  Software development work related  to  Information system design, computer Networks and Network programming, Embedded and real time systems, wireless and mobile computing, bioinformatics, computer vision, e-commerce etc. Each semester of the programme is of five months duration with 650 hrs of class room teaching and 100 hrs professional training.

Candidates admitted to M.Sc(IT) programme are expected to  stay in the  Department from 8.00 A.M to 8.00PM attending lectures and  Lab work, Projects, IT workshops etc. Each student admitted to the course will be provided with a Pentium-4 system fixed on a study table with access to SUN/SGI/Digital/Compaq workstations and servers. A computer hardware laboratory with Microprocessors & Microcontroller development systems and Interfacing facilities, Network lab with facility to conduct experiments using Routers, switches, campus network with  ISDN, Leased line and  VSAT connectivity, Tele Communication lab, Computer Visualization  lab having SGI Octane and SGI Pentium Computers etc will be available to the students.

Even though the course is designed basically for  candidates having degree in Computer Science/Physical Sciences/Engineering graduates, special tutorials and lectures will be arranged in mathematics/Electronics etc. for candidates from other streams.
