Objectives

 In the year 1997, an Internet Centre had been established at the Physics Department with  the help of State Government of Rajasthan. Internet Centre is  responsible to provide internet facilities through campus network and managing University network. Internet centre also engaged in in house development of software required for various departments and units of the University.

The objectives of the centre are:

(i) to provide access  of Internet to teachers and students for educational and research purpose.
(ii) to provide training on Internet & Intranet to students admitted to different courses conducted by the University.
(iii) to promote use of Internet as a non-conventional educational media among students and teachers in Udaipur region.
(iv) to establish Sukhadia University Network(SUNet) of computers to link all constituent and affiliated colleges under the University.
 

Facilities
 
The following facilities were created  for Internet and Sukhadia University Network:

(i) A direct Internet connection to ERNET (Educational and Research Network of India) using a  VSAT system.

(ii) A 64 kbps leased line Internet connection to  BSNL  NIB node.

(iv) Phynt   :  An Intranet  Windows NT server

(v) Kumbh :  A Windows NT  Proxy server for providing Internet facilities  through campus network

(vi) Trinetra :  A  DNS server for the campus network

(vii)      Communication Server :   A  Windows NT based  Remote Access Server  for
             dial-up connectivity to  Sukhadia University Network.
 

(vii) Pentium based PC's:  15 Pentium based computers are available in the Centre for Internet access as well as laboratory facility for MCA course and training programme conducted at the centre.

Services offered at the Internet Centre:
 
Internet

Internet centre provides Internet facilities to the bonafide students and teachers. Out of the  six  dedicated Internet nodes available, one node is reserved for faculty and another for MCA course. Students and teachers are required to first register their names and  undergo Internet training for access to the facility. Internet access is only allowed for access of information   which are of an academic nature.

Project work related to Internet have also been carried out on this facility. Students are encouraged to undertake web based projects  

Laboratory facilities at the Internet centre are used by students  of  MCA programme  for  the following laboratory courses:

(i) Computer hardware
(ii) Computer networking and communications
(iii) Internet and Intranet networking

WEBSITE  HOSTING

The Internet server  installed in the Internet centre  is used for hosting of the University web site. The web site of the University is hosted with the following objectives:
  

(i) to provide  all relevant information related to the University.

(ii) to provide  on-line access to student information, examinational results, library information etc.

(iii) to present achievements of the students and faculty members of this University to international academic community and prospective employers.

(iv) to promote international co-operation in academics by exchanging educational and research resources

(v) to provide test bed for web hosting for students for training on E-commerce, web advertisement, web based software development etc.

Intranet

An Intranet server has been installed to provide educational and research resources downloaded from the Internet, distribute lecture notes, tutorials, information bulletin, on line student data base, examination results etc. The Intranet web site  is hosted in the communication server to which  remote access can be made  from the affiliated colleges.

Internet  Training:

The Internet centre offers training programmes  under the following categories:

(i) use of computer and Internet to the users not having prior knowledge of computer or Internet.

(ii) use of Internet tools for research  students, faculty members,and students of professional courses.

(iii) training to selected students of UG and PG classes.
iv) training to selected students from affiliated colleges for the popularization of  Internet in education and training.

 Campus  Network

A 10/100 Mbps   campus  net work is established in the   University connecting servers  installed in the Internet Centre, Computer Centre and servers in other computer Centres of Colleges in the old campus. Internet access to research  labs and libraries are also provided to different departments  through the network.

Both campuses  of the University is interconnected through 64 kbps leased line. A 64 kbps leased line access to BSNL NIB node is connected to the Campus network
