Professor Badri Lal  Chaudhary  was born on 10 th  December 1951  in a village in the Rail Magra Tehsil  in Udaipur district, Rajasthan. After his early education in his village, Prof. Chaudhary obtained his graduation and masters degree in Botany from the University of Udaipur (Presently known as Mohanlal Sukhadia University).  Prof. Chaudhary obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1980 from the University of Udaipur  on a very significant topic-" Microanatomy of the certain species of the order Gentianales".  This work, done under the supervision of  one of the top botanists of this country, Prof.Y.D.Tyagi,  merited wide circulation and publications in reputed journals.   

Prof. Chaudhary started his teaching career  as  a lecturer in Botany from  M.S.J. College, Bharatpur  in 1974. He joined in the Department of Botany of Mohanlal Sukhadia university in the year 1975 as  Assistant Professor in Botany. Known as a reputed teacher for over  last 29 years, Prof Chaudhary imparted knowledge to thousands of students, guided 15 Ph.D. theses and is currently supervising seven research students. He has also disseminated knowledge through publication of twenty seven books and several research papers on Bryophyte. Prof. Chaudhary's contribution to present scientific facts and lessons in a simplified form in Hindi language as helped thousand of students  to learn Botany in their own  mother tongue. Prof. Chaudhary served as a  science specialist in Rajasthan Hindi Granth Academy from 1994-95.

Research in the field of Bryophyte  particularly on mosses  by Prof. Chaudhary is  the only published work available with regard to this region of  Rajasthan.  Prof. B. L.. Chaudhary's research work in on the Bryophyte Flora of Rajasthan  and  Gujarat brought him into national prominence. His academic and administrative acumen was utilized in Udaipur as a Professor of  Botany for last 11 years. He has served this University in various capacities viz., Dean, College of Science, Chairman of  Faculty of Science, Dean, Students Welfare, Head, Department of Botany,  Member of Academic Council, Member of  Board of Management, Chairman, Sports Board, Member of Finance committee, Nominee of the University in the management committee of several affiliated colleges under the university  etc.  Prof. B. L. Chaudhary  is the founder of the Department of  Biotechnology  of the University which offers  one of the prestigious post graduate  courses of the university from 1996.   He was the Incharge of  the Biotechnology programme  from 1996 to 2003. Prof. Chaudhary has also contributed in starting the Department of  Environmental Sciences of the university. Prof. Chaudhary was honoured by being awarded  appreciation from Govt. of Rajasthan in the field of Environment in 1990-91.  He has also worked as the Honorary Director, State SC/ST Development Corporation, Jaipur from 1990-1995.

Under the academic leadership  of the Prof. Chaudhary as the senior most Professor of Botany, the Department of Botany  has grown to national level  and has been awarded UGC DRS programme and DST- FIST programme. His experience has also been utilized as a member of board of studies in many  other Universities and Board of Secondary Education of Rajasthan.  He was also a member of several organizations and Scientific bodies -notably- Indian Science Congress, Indian Botanical Society, Indian Bryological Society, New York Academy of Science,USA and International Society of Bryologists. 

Prof. Chaudhary has taken charge of  the University as Vice-Chancellor on 3rd August  2004. Presently as Vice-Chancellor of M.L.Sukhadia University he is giving a new  direction to the University to attain the status of one of the prestigious universities of the country by maintaining high standards in teaching and research. Under the leadership of  Prof. Chaudhary, university  Departments and units are working  towards strengthening  the academic and research programs  through  active collaboration and participation of  industries, research organizations and other institutions.
